Styling By Length And Occasion

Hairstyles At Hotscope

Styling is a separate skill from cutting. Whether you want a blowout that survives a humid evening, an updo that holds through a reception, or a shape you can recreate yourself on a Tuesday, it starts with the length you have and the time you actually want to spend.

Length decides technique, product and how long you sit in the chair. Pick the one that matches your hair now, and your stylist will adapt the look to your texture and face shape at the consultation.

What Are You Styling For?

Where you are going changes the brief. Tell your stylist the occasion and how long you need it to hold, and the technique gets chosen around that.

Be Realistic

How Long It Takes At Home

The honest daily cost of each length once you are doing it yourself. Worth knowing before you commit to growing it out or cutting it off.

Short5 to 10 minutes, product does the work
Medium10 to 20 minutes, quickest to restyle
Long20 to 30 minutes, longer to dry than to style
Updo30 minutes or more, worth booking in

Rough guides for average thickness. Very thick or very curly hair adds time at every length, which is one reason a good cut matters more than any product.

Before You Choose

Four Things That Decide The Style

  • 01

    Your Face Shape

Where length and width sit changes how a style reads. See the face shape guide on our haircuts page.

  • 02

    Your Texture

Straight, wavy, curly and coily hair hold styles completely differently. Curls need their own approach.

  • 03

    Your Condition

Dry or damaged ends will not hold a set. Sometimes a treatment first does more than any styling can.

  • 04

    Your Honest Upkeep

A style you love but will never recreate is the wrong style. Tell your stylist the truth about your mornings.

Good To Know

Hairstyle Questions

What Is The Difference Between A Haircut And A Hairstyle Appointment?

A haircut changes the shape of your hair. A hairstyle appointment styles the shape you already have, for an event, a photo or simply a good week. Many clients book both together, and the styling is quicker when the cut is fresh.

How Much Does Hair Styling Cost At Hotscope?

Styling starts from $35 for short hair, $45 for medium and $55 for long. Wedding styling starts from $89 with a trial from $45. Your stylist confirms the price at the consultation, since thickness and complexity both affect it.

How Long Will My Style Last?

Usually until your next wash, often 2 to 4 days. Updos and set styles hold longer than loose blow dried waves, and humidity shortens everything, which is worth planning for in a Gulf Coast summer.

Should I Arrive With Clean Hair?

Unless your stylist tells you otherwise, arrive with dry, brushed hair. Day old hair holds an updo better, while sleek, smooth styles usually sit better on freshly washed hair.

Can I Book Styling Without A Haircut?

Yes. Styling is booked on its own whenever you want it, and it is the most common booking before weddings, parties, photos and interviews.

Can You Style Short Hair?

Yes. Short hair takes styling beautifully, it just needs different technique and product rather than length and pins. Texture, direction and finish do the work.

Can I Bring Photos Of The Style I Want?

Please do. Two or three photos say more than any description, and one photo of something you do not want is just as useful. Your stylist will tell you honestly how close your hair can get.

Do You Style Hair For Bridal Parties?

Yes. Tell the salon how many people are coming and what each of them wants when you book, so the morning is planned with enough time and stylists.
